I had the chance to visit an animal rescue shelter in Florida, and it was phenomenal. The lady who owns the property and runs the whole thing is a really a modern-day hero, dedicating her life to rescuing and nurturing animals.
The shelter is on a 10-acre farm, and they have the space to rescue different animals like cows, horses, and donkeys, as well as the many dogs and cats of course. Volunteers help run the place, letting the dogs all have their turns in the "run" areas, and making sure everyone has water, food, etc.
The cattery is a giant two-car garage sized room with a gazillion carpeted cat climbing structures and cozy little cubbies that cats love to get into. Entering that room and instantly feeling the stare of every kitty in the place was a fun experience, and it's so great to know there are wonderful people doing this great work rescuing animals that need it.
